Story and Gameplay - 2 point
Soccer shootout is a Capcom produced soccer game that was released in 1995 to the Super Nintendo Pal region. It features multiple player teams based on real teams for the era.
There is no real story for this game which means it's all about the gameplay. It takes awhile to get used to the game at first due to no on screen character icons. It requires some more focus with passing and kicking as they are primarily aimed by the player and not by AI.
The gameplay is fun and fast and pretty realistic like it states on the box. As soon as kick off happens, you are launched into action as the opposing team encroaches on you. The game plays like other top down soccer games and most techniques are similar.
There are also 6 different game modes that means the game has potential replay value and varying gameplay.
Running out onto the field and scoring a goal immediately isn't going to happen as there is a learning curve to this game. The controller utilizes all the front buttons for kicking and passing but it alternates the automation based on which button you use. Y and X buttons are used for a more automated kick and pass while the lower buttons require you to aim before attempting the action. Once you understand that layout the controller is quite easy to use and enjoyable to use.
There are 6 different modes included on this cart for the player to enjoy. It features a main championship mode which pits you against all the teams of the league, however the other modes are quite different. All the modes focus around the soccer game but add different features to change the gameplay. If you wish, you can also jump into training and learn how to navigate the field better and get those shots off.
Another great feature of course is multiplayer compatibility. This game allows up to 4 players to be on the field at one time and makes for some great fun between friends, families and rivals.

Design and Difficulty - 2 points
Soccer Shootout is bright, colorful, loud and exciting from the moment it fires up. The introduction is a massive pump up and rewatchable as the uniforms change color and represent new teams.
Design wise this game is quite on point with everything and that's to expected from a big publisher such as Capcom. They wanted a realistic soccer game that was exciting and that's exactly what they made.
Expect no mercy as the other teams do not hold back against you and will most likely at first annihilate you. Championship and All-Star mode are definitely the hardest to win against the AI and make for a great challenge.

Fun and Summary - 👍 +1
Soccer Shootout is a soccer game but I actually found this one more exciting and riveting than others I've played in the past. The realism and skill required makes this a great challenge and lead to more hours played than simpler soccer titles.
I had loads of fun playing it, especially against other friends because that meant that we were both as bad as each other and just played with our instincts which led to a great match with the successor being me, only because I played it slightly more than he did.
This is a sports game that breaks the usual boundaries and thanks to a little further development into the realism of the game.
RetroRating: 7 out of 10
