Gameplay
Donald is Maui Mallard, a medium boiled personal detective who has embarked on a vacation after his last major case. After reaching his paradise island retreat he picks up another case to recover the recently stolen Shabuhm Shabuhm Idol and stop the island from being destoryed.
The player takes control of Maui and begin the adventure in a mansion style location. At the beginning of the game you must navigate your way through the manor and find the exit while attempting to collect all the loot and survive the baddies. Each level plays like this in a platformer style approach.
When you reach a certain point in the game you gain the power to turn into Cold Shadow or the ninja form of the duo. The ninja version has a different set of skills that are required to help you progress through the levels.
Once you manage to finish several large worlds and there levels you are challenged to defeat the last boss and recover the idol. Once completed you finish the game and get rewarded the end sequence.

Donald in Maui Mallard is a really fun and family friendly game that everyone who enjoys Disney would like. It does lack depth as a game but it has enough fun and charismatic elements to make it enjoyable and simple.
The game is great to play and I really enjoyed the switch up ability between characters. The overall length of the game was good for 2-3 hours on one playthrough but took me a bit longer than that because of the interesting level designs and challenges.

Donald who is Maui Mallard, a detective on a vacation after solving a major case. After arriving he picks up a new case and begins to search for the shabuhm shabuhm Idol which will destroy the island if not returned to where it was stolen from.
The story is present through the entire came and shared via text screens when the player reaches a new level. The story is well written and contains fun and action with the use of a variety characters and locations.
The game is a fun platformer that plays very similar to other Disney produced games on the Super NES. There are lots of collectibles in the form of loot to find as you run, jump , shoot and ninja your way through the small levels that make up larger scale areas. If you secure enough loot you can also access a bonus level which is a fun bouncing game for bonus lives and continues.
There are about 8 different worlds which include a mansion, ninja training grounds, volcanoes, the realm of the dead and more. Once you reach the Ninja training grounds you also unlock the ability to switch between Detective and Ninja form which opens up gameplay to more technical jumps and fights.

For a platformer this game does use quite a bit of the controller as you move around finding the idol. It does use most of the control which is great and it also changes when you change between forms which kept my fingers interested. The controller input is really nice when it moves on screen and there is no real issues with that.
The game only features a single-player mode but that stretches out for a few hours over the multiple areas. The cool thing about this game is changing form because it helps change the way you play by adding new moves that allow you to access more out of the current level.
There is a password system that is very handy because I found myself losing quite a bit of lives on some levels. Definitely handy to keep a scrap of paper next to you because they require a few letters to use.
Overall this game doesn't offer much to really make it standout as a platformer but the story elements help keep it fun to play along the way.

Disney's team did a fantastic job with the artwork, animations and music when they made this game. It looks great and is very snappy to respond with player input. Donald looks fantastic and has great animations that keep him feeling very cartoon like.
There are quite a few good music tracks alongside an arsenal of comical sound effects that range from your big gun to enemies who through buzz blades at you. It's a rather family friendly game and these elements come together nicely for that aspect.
It is quite a challenge to get to the end because it requires a bit of learning where to go when you first get to the levels. I lost a few lives due to confusion but most of my lives were taken in the areas where instant deaths where possible like in the Volcano level. Thankfully the password system is reliable and given out between levels if you successfully finish the bonus level. I failed a few times but was able to find the missed password by searching online.
